settling into life in Norway

It's almost been a week since we arrived in Oslo and we're slowly getting settled into life here. The flight over went really well; Lilly slept the entire time, except when nursing. Here we are on our way from Minneapolis to Iceland.

My dad picked us up at the airport with a trailer for all of our luggage. By now we've been able to unpack all of it, and we've also managed to get the apartment into somewhat of a decent shape (spending two full days cleaning it, about which we're not too happy). The first day here was gorgeous and we enjoyed it wandering around in the sunshine. Lilly got a pair of sunglasses at H&M and we had dinner at Cafe Celsius, where we had our wedding reception last year. The other days we've been busy getting misc. stuff done (signing apartment contract, getting "barnetrygd" (child support) for Lilly and residence permit for Leighton). We've been out to Asker (where I grew up) twice, Sunday to visit Lilly's mormor and morfar and today to spend the day with Katrine and Cecilie, good friends of mine from high school. We've got more social visits lined up tomorrow and Friday, as well as a trip to the tax office and health station to get properly registered and signed up in the system here. Starting Monday, Leighton will be busy with orientation and registration at the University of Oslo. I'm going to see how I can get Lilly and I signed up for baby swimming at the student gym.

Leighton's posted some pics. from our first week here in our blog (see link to the right under "Photos") and soon we both hope to find some more time for email, skype and of course more posts here! I'm sure Leighton will report on life as a graduate student in Ibsen studies, and I'll let you know what mischief Lilly and I are up to.

So glad to hear the flight went well!! I enjoyed the photos too. It looks like you are settling in very well. Mike and I just returned from a wonderful three days in Voyageurs: great weather, no bugs, and the fish were biting! It doesn't get better than that. Enjoy the rest of the summer.
